FAMARA Diedhiou wants to become Bristol City’s version of Didier Drogba.

The Robins striker worshipped Drogba when he led Chelsea’s quest for Premier League and Champions League glory.

“Drogba was my hero when I was young. He was always doing amazing things for Marseilles and Chelsea,” Diedhiou said.

“I really wanted to play like Drogba because he was such a powerful attacker and Chelsea became the top club in Europe because of his style.

“He always fought for everything and that is what I am doing now.”

The 25-year-old kept City on track for promotion by nodding in Ryan Kent’s corner just before half-time.

The £5.3m record signing’s first strike in four injury-plagued months arrived after Nathan Baker was sent off for a lunge on Josh Scowen.

City were up against it but Joe Bryan sealed a second win in 10 for the Carabao Cup semi-finalists, slamming home after Alex Smithies denied Diedhiou.

“It was an important victory and we needed the points because we have not won for quite a long time,” Diedhiou added.

“The cup run was hard but it was great fun. Playing against top players and the best teams like Man City and Man United will make us stronger.”

Hoops boss Ian Holloway gave his players a post-match dressingdown but ex-City midfielder Luke Freeman insisted defeat was not due to a lack of commitment.

“They were better than us and it was a bad day at the office,” said Freeman who is being linked with a move to Fulham.

“But it’s not that the lads aren’t putting the effort in. It’s sometimes the case in these situations that the harder you try the worse things seem to get.”
