CARLOS: IT’S MY DESTINY

Swans boss is aiming to ruin old club’s big day

- By JAMES CANDY

CARLOS CARVALHAL claims that it’s his destiny to knock Sheffield Wednesday out of the FA Cup today.

The Swansea boss takes his side to face his former club in the fifth round, just 55 days after they sacked him on Christmas Eve. “It was destiny when I saw the draw,” said Carvalhal. “I thought it was very strange but it’s our destiny. You can’t mix personal things with professional. “You have to be a certain way before the game and then you can be different after. “We will do our very best to win and this is all I am thinking about.” Carvalhal was shown the door with Wednesday in 15th place in the Championship, despite having taken them into the play-offs two years running. Since taking charge at Swansea, he has lifted them off the foot of ® the Premier League with 14 points from seven matches.

The amazing turnaround in form has taken many by surprise.

But Carvalhal admits that he has had plenty of time to plot his revolution at Swansea, having been sounded out about replacing Garry Monk in 2015.

“We spoke. I talked to the chairman at that time,” he said.

Feeling

“I think he liked our talk and my ideas but there was not an opportunity at that time to come.

“I had the feeling, and I think the chairman had the same one, that we could work together in the future.

“The style of the play and the way that we managed the club, the way that we talked with the press.

“I know that they were analysing a lot of things they liked and I’m glad I am here now.”
