BOXING legends Frank Bruno and Ricky Hatton led tributes to a fighter who died after winning his bout.

Scott Westgarth, 31,went 10 punishing rounds before being knocked down just before the final bell. And he appeared to be in pain during his post-fight interview. The Geordie was checked by paramedics at the Doncaster Dome, South Yorks, before being taken to hospital where he died. Doctors have not revealed the cause of his death and organisers cancelled the rest of the show. Devastated opponent Dec Spellman tweeted: “Absolutely ® heartbroken and lost for words. Will continue to pray for Scott’s family and the people close to him. Rest easy my friend.”

Scott’s win put him just another victory away from becoming English light heavyweight champion.

Ex WBC world champion Frank, 56, tweeted a link to a Go Fund Me page set up for the fighter’s family, including girlfriend Natalie.

He wrote: “Very saddened to hear a boxer has lost his life, my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. RIP Scott Westgarth.”

Multiple world champion Ricky added: “Heartbreaking this. Thoughts to his friends and family. And to anyone involved in the show. Rest in peace young man x.”

Former champ Audley Harrison said: “Prize fighting is the noble art – but the price the fighters pay for that privilege is a tough burden to bear in moments like this RIP.”
