HEUNG-MIN SON has told Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino he can bank on him to fill Harry Kane’s injured boots.

Kane is facing a stint in the treatment room after damaging ankle ligaments in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Bournemouth.

Son scored twice against the Cherries after being deployed as an emergency striker to take his goal tally for the season to 18.

He said: “Harry is a very important player. If he is injured we need to close the gaps and other players have to be ready for the team.

“I don’t know if I will play as a striker or winger but if play as a striker I need to be ready. All I can do is run for the other players to make an option. If I play striker, I will do my best.”

Son, 25, is rapidly making himself a hero at Tottenham and fans have even adapted their favourite Cyril Knowles song to pay tribute to the South Korean star.

Special

After being serenaded with chants of ‘Nice one Sonny’ during the win at the Vitality Stadium, he said: “I like it. I thank the fans for making a song for me. I felt goosebumps.

“I feel at home. Everyone supports me when I play bad. They make a song from history for me and for me it is very special. I cannot believe this.

“I hope I can make history for Tottenham and for my country.

“I’m not playing on my own. My team-mates helped me a lot to score goals and without them I am nothing.

“I cannot score goals without them. I’m such a lucky guy to have such great team-mates.”

Pochettino reckons Son is playing the best football of his career after scoring seven goals in his last four games.

The former Bayer Leverkusen ace added: “Last season I enjoyed it a lot. The first season I had a tough time but I enjoyed it. “The Premier League is not easy. It is one of the best leagues and I need to enjoy every day. “I am a really lucky guy to play in the Premier League and have so many supporters and good teammates.”
