MULTI-millionaire Simon Cowell has no idea what a Tesco Bag For Life is.

He made the embarrassing confession during auditions for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent.

A would-be singer tried out for the ITV talent show and told the judges he worked in Tesco supermarket.

Panellist Amanda Holden told him: “Oh I love Tesco. I love the fact they have Bags For Life.” When the audition was over and the cameras were off him, Simon sheepishly whispered to Amanda: “What’s a ‘Bag For Life’.”

She was left speechless that the television mogul had never heard of them.

And Amanda then had to explain what they were.

Not surprisingly, this piece of gossip was passed on to fellow judges David Walliams and Alesha Dixon – who then teased him about being out of touch with the man in the street.

An insider said: “Simon is said to be worth £40million so maybe he doesn’t need to worry about re-using old shopping bags.

“He should know better. He’s been snapped out and about in supermarkets.”

Last night a Tesco spokes- man said: “We’re shocked that Simon hasn’t heard of our Bags For Life.

“They can be used again and again to save the pennies, use less plastic and all the proceeds go to local good causes.” ¬

The new series of Britain’s Got Talent starts on ITV on Saturday, April 14.
