Toffees check out Wilshere
EVERTON are in pole position to sign Jack Wilshere if he leaves Arsenal.
Starsport can reveal the midfielder is worried his latest injury setback, while training with England, has not helped him if he opts to quit the Gunners at the end of the season.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate revealed Wilshere (right) was suffering from inflamed knee tendons when he was pulled from the travelling squad for last Friday’s friendly win in Holland.
The injury also kept him out of Tuesday’s draw with Italy. Although Southgate and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed it was not a serious issue, the disclosure is sure to have been noted by clubs considering moving for Wilshere on a free transfer this summer. It is understood Everton are currently showing by far the strongest interest. Ideally Wilshere would like to stay at the Emirates but he is not happy with the contract the club have offered him. It is heavily linked to
appearance payments due to his terrible injury record.
Starsport revealed on Tuesday how unhappy Arsenal were with the way Wilshere was managed while away with England, having been asked to train hard for four days.
Prior to joining up, Wilshere managed 28 appearances for the Gunners in just over five months.
He is set to be chosen by Arsenal boss Wenger for the Premier League visit of Stoke on Sunday.
