Lions told to make ‘crazy’ Khazri see red

- by HECTOR NUNNS

ENGLAND have been told to target Tunisia danger man Wahbi Khazri at the World Cup because of his hothead antics.

Khazri, 27, scored in a warm-up win over Costa Rica on Tuesday in Nice. But the Rennes striker, on loan from Sunderland, could have seen red before that for responding to hard fouls, by kicking out twice at defender Kendall Waston in front of the referee.

Vancouver Whitecaps centre-back Waston said: “In a World Cup match he would have got a red card for kicking out at me like he did. In a friendly game sometimes referees can leave it. People might look at that and think he could be wound up – and in football you have to take advantage of everything.

“When you know the type of player someone is, you try to do things that might make them crazy and see their team lose them with a red card.

“England will see what happened, and they will try to take advantage of it.” However, Leicester’s Tunisia midfielder Yohan Benalouane reckons England should fear Khazri in their World Cup opener.

He said: “Khazri is very good with the ball at his feet and can shoot well with both. He is great for our team because he has lots of quality. He can shoot, he can dribble, he can make things happen.

“He will be an important player for us at the World Cup, and very dangerous.

“England should be worried about him, everyone knows about his ability.”
