DAN AND OUT

Sturridge still sidelined

- By DAVE ARMITAGE

DANIEL STURRIDGE looks set to miss another two games for West Brom.

It was hoped the on-loan Liverpool striker would be back in the frame for today’s home clash with Burnley after injury. But the £120,000-a-week hitman is out and Baggies boss Alan Pardew revealed he is also struggling to make next week’s trip to Swansea. The 28-year-old has played just 77 minutes since his expensive loan move in January. He’s missed the last five games with a hamstring injury since limping out against Chelsea after just three minutes. Even a trip to LA to see a specialist has failed to get him back on the pitch. Pardew said: “Unfortunately for Daniel a hamstring is a serious injury and he’s probably on track with it. We can’t accelerate that process. It is what it is.

“He’s been committed to the club in his work and everything he’s done and I hope we see him on the pitch. He’s been a serious loss for the team.” Albion look doomed, 10 points off safety and in need of at least six wins from their remaining seven. Pardew revealed he would happily stay in charge if they take the drop into the Championship. And he insisted that accusations the players don’t care about their predicament are wrong. Dressing-room tears after their most recent away defeat at Bournemouth convinced Pardew his players are trying everything to turn it around. He said: “I really felt for the players. It’s as hurt as I’ve been as a manager for the group that had played. They gave me everything and got nothing. “I don’t think it’s a group not fighting. They’ve been fighting and they haven’t really had enough offensive players to carry the fight.”
