Fragile Brits are being urged to “stay indoors” as the smog heads over during the 30C summery blast.

Drinkers

Defra says: “Anyone experiencing discomfort such as sore eyes, cough or sore throat should consider reducing activity.”

But the hot weather will be great news for beleaguered landlords.

Drinkers are set to down five million pints between today and Sunday, according to the British Beer and Pub Association.

The mega-bender will pour a cool £20million into pub coffers after months of people staying indoors to avoid the cold.

And Sainsbury’s are anticipating a massive 70% increase on beer and bubbly sales.

The hot weather will also mean people dragging out their barbecues.

Tesco says hungry sun-worshippers will munch through eight million sausages, two million burgers and two million chicken drumsticks – followed by three million ice lollies.

Spokeswoman Natalie Bastow said: “With temperatures set to hit 25C plus, this will be the first real opportunity Brits have had this year to get out into the garden and enjoy a barbecue with family and friends.

“Shoppers are wasting no time in stocking up for what is set to be a great few days of fun with alfresco cooking for a change.”

Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson said: “We expect a high of 26C on Thursday in the London area, with 24C in Birmingham and 21C in Newcastle.”
