THE COLD THAW

-

VLADIMIR Putin is to fly to the US for the first time since 2007 to meet Donald Trump. The Kremlin said Mr Putin was keen to visit – and the US president had pledged to visit Moscow in return. It comes despite fears of a new Cold War. Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said he was “convinced” the pair would not allow an “armed confrontation” between their two countries.

SO “frenemies” Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are going to meet officially for the first time at the White House.

As always when it comes to Trump, it’s a question of what could go wrong? He and Putin evidently have a very complicated relationship.

On the one hand, there are allegations the West-hating Kremlin had a hand in the President’s election to the White House.

It’s also been said there is a mutual admiration between the two.

In public at least, they have been firing verbal missiles at each other for months.

Tensions have also been escalating over the chemical attack in Syria and subsequent bombing.

The proposed meeting also follows The Donald’s planned but mightily unpredictable showdown with barmy dictator Kim Jong-Un.

But after recent fears of an apocalyptic World War Three scenario, these face-to-face talks are welcome.

Whenever the rendezvous takes place, you would pay a fortune to be a fly on the wall.
