Jail vid shows ‘drug taking’
SNEERING prisoners boasted of taking drugs in a video showing them talking on smuggled mobile phones.
A dozen lags from a group dubbed the “Slider Gang” because of their matching striped flip-flops are seen lounging around at the jail.
Six are lying on a cell bed as one smokes what appears to be a cannabis joint. “Cali” – slang for cannabis – repeats one jailbird, before warning that “the screw” – a warder – “is active”.
Another group of prisoners is shown sharing a roll-up in a rubbishstrewn communal area outside their cells.
Others can be seen playing music on smuggled mobiles.
At one point a female warder is shown on patrol.
One lag says: “Officer, officer, officer. She brings in all the phones.” In another scene, he says “jail life” before turning the camera round and adding: “We can get big thing, small thing.”
The 15-minute clip – entitled “English jail inside with iPhones smoking Cali” – was shot at Birmingham jail.
The film gained thousands of hits after being uploaded on to live video app Periscope by a user called Ray. In 2016, the G4S-run Category B/C jail was the scene of a riot which wrecked four wings.
Prison director Rob Kellett said: “This behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. Those involved will face disciplinary action and could have time added to their sentence.
“Our staff work tirelessly to detect, intercept and confiscate contraband.”
