Officer sues Met for £200k
A POLICE officer wants
£200,000 from the Met after being left “traumatised” by watching more than
100 child abuse videos. Cara Creaby, 29, had to examine hours of “harrowing” footage while investigating the rape of three young girls.
The officer claims she suffered flashbacks and nightmares, her sex life was ruined, and she was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.
She is said to have asked her bosses for help while investigating disabled paedophile Michael D’Costa, who was later jailed for 16 years.
But the Hemel Hempstead policewoman was allegedly told to carry on “as best she could”.
Harmful
In a High Court case, thought to be the first of its kind, she is suing the force for the “psychiatric injury” she allegedly suffered.
She had to support and interview the victims and they formed an “emotional bond”, but she had to watch the clips for “at least” eight hours at a time, it is said.
Her legal team claims her injuries were caused by “excessive viewing of harmful photographic and video material”.
There were no offers of help, risk assessment or consideration of how to share the workload, they added.
Scotland Yard said: “A claim for damages due to psychiatric injury, dated 22 February 2018, has been received by the Metropolitan Police Service. The claim is currently being reviewed by solicitors acting on behalf of the Met.”
