Wood book first Wembley date

- By GRAHAM NICKLESS

WATFORD loanee Michael Folivi chested Boreham Wood to their first Wembley visit in the club’s 70-year history.

The 20-year-old bundled home the most important goal of his young career after Bruno Andrade hit the bar from 30 yards to book a play-off final date with Tranmere on Saturday.

As the Sutton defence hesitated, the striker calmly waited for the ball to drop before chesting it over the line two minutes from time.

But the Hertfordshire part-timers had to fight for their lives to keep out Sutton in stoppage time before booking their national stadium place with a 3-2 victory.

Sutton sub Ross Lafayette scored for both teams as United, who finished third in the league, slipped up on their artificial pitch. Micky Mellon hopes there will be no Wembley wobbles when Tranmere return to the stadium where they lost to Forest Green in last season’s final.

James Norwood netted twice as Rovers beat Ebbsfleet, who had Dave Winfield sent off after a mass brawl, 4-2 in extra-time in a cracking semi in front of 8,898 fans at Prenton Park.

Mellon, who led Fleetwood to League Two in 2012, said: “Nothing is done yet so we are not celebrating anything.

“Boreham Wood have shown remarkable fighting spirit to reach the final and we have to match that on Saturday.

“This job should come with a health warning because that semi-final had tension and passion – everything football should be.”
