JEREMY Clarkson pulled no punches on his debut as the new host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Almost six million viewers tuned into the revived TV quiz to see how the gobby star fared after replacing ex-presenter Chris Tarrant.

And, unlike polite Tarrant, Clarkson was his usual brash self – but it proved a winning formula with fans loving him.

He ridiculed the first contestant of the ITV series – prison officer Ricky Holmes from West Yorkshire – for using up a lifeline on only the second question, saying: “It would be hilarious if the first contestant went home with nothing at all.”

Clarkson also made jokes about Yorkshire and Scottish accents as well as US President Donald Trump’s hair.

Ratings for Saturday’s opener are almost double what Millionaire? was getting before it was axed in 2014.

One fan tweeted: “He might be a big rude ape but he’s funny and is good for this.”

On tonight’s episode, a contestant asks Clarkson for help on an art question under the “Ask The Host” lifeline – see what happens on ITV at 9pm.

PETROLHEAD Jeremy Clarkson made a blistering debut as he hosted the revamped Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

The controversial TV presenter will be glad to see the quiz motoring into Top Gear…
