Roseanne’s dodgy excuses for racism
COMEDIAN Roseanne Barr was mocked last night after claiming her racist rant about a black political adviser was “sleep tweeting”.
Her show was axed by US network ABC after she called former President Obama aide Valerie Jarrett a “child of the muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes”.
Roseanne, 65, claimed she sent the Twitter message to 750,000 followers after taking high-strength sleeping pill Ambien.
In a now-deleted tweet she told her fans: “Guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting…I went 2 far.”
The bizarre excuse soon attracted scorn on social media. One tweet said: “I have only taken Ambien once but I don’t remember one of the side-effects being racism.”
The comic’s revived show, called just Roseanne, had attracted huge ratings since its return in March and was praised by President Trump.
He tweeted last night: “Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie
Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr.
“Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC.”
Co-star John Goodman, 65, looked despondent yesterday following the show’s axing.
Ms Jarrett, 61, responding to Roseanne’s racist slur, said: “I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment.”
