- By NICHOLAS BIEBER and MARTIN COULTER news@dailystar.co.uk

THE sister of the Duchess of Sussex has called for EDL founder Tommy Robinson to be released from jail.

Samantha Markle urged her thousands of Twitter followers to sign a petition.

Robinson, 35, was jailed for 13 months for contempt of court after live streaming a rant about a sensitive trial.

But Meg’s sister Samantha branded the court’s decision “ridiculous” and urged ®

Prime Minister Theresa May to back her. Samantha said: “I do not feel that Tommy Robinson should have been jailed.

“Violent protesters that endanger others should be jailed.

“I don’t agree with everything he has to say, but I feel that he should be entitled to freedom of speech.”

But social media users were quick to blast both Samantha’s outburst and Robinson’s claim that he was a political prisoner.

Faisal Khan wrote: “Samantha Tommy Robinson was arrested for breaking the law on reporting restrictions on a live Trial (put in place to prevent people from influencing the verdict).”

Aania wrote: “Tommy Robinson supporters make me laugh, he isn’t a political prisoner, he is a racist fascist criminal serving time for contempt of court so let’s NOT #freetommy.” PROTEST: Samantha A WOMAN accused of making a pipe bomb was told yesterday she will face trial in October.

Harinderjet Jarrett, 51, a British-Indian national of Hayes, west London, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court via a video link from prison. A CHEAPER and simpler new funeral is being launched.

Co-op Funeralcare said its “direct to cremation” service is “without ceremony”.

The company said it costs less than half a traditional funeral.
