Mepham made his debut for Wales in China in March and was handed his first start against Mexico by boss Ryan Giggs.

Should he replicate the form he showed in California with Brentford next season, Bournemout­h are unlikely to be the only top flight club monitoring him.

“Chris had a great game, he deserved to start the way he’s been playing,” said Tottenham defender Ben Davies.

“I think he’s shown he can play at internatio­nal level. People will say there’s a lack of experience there, but it doesn’t matter with the quality he has.”
