CHEER FOR JEER

- By STUART BRODKIN

MUSTAJEER (3.55) ran a blinder at Naas last month when stepping into Group race class for the first time and but for trouble in running he may well have won.

The five-year-old, representing the trainer-jockey combination of Ger Lyons and Colin Keane, was beaten two lengths into fourth by the useful Cliffs Of Moher – runner-up in last year’s Epsom Derby – in that Group Two contest,

The former Maktoum-owned horse can make amends in the Listed race on the Curragh card. I’m So Fancy can give him most to think about.

Joseph O’Brien’s LATROBE (5.40) is one of the most highlyrated maidens in training in Ireland and can surely lose that tag in the last race on the card.

Latrobe was second in a Group Three here last time and before that had been beaten only a neck by Hunting Horn, subsequently third in both the Sandown Classic Trial and the Chester Vase.

A repeat of either of those runs would easily be good enough against this fairly moderate opposition.

Dermot Weld’s once-raced Baliyad is sure to come on for his debut run at Navan and could well prove the biggest threat to the selection.

Earlier on the card, O’Brien can score with RATTLING JEWEL (3.20) in the fivefurlong handicap. He was travelling well when stumbling after appearing to clip heels at a key stage of the race a furlong from home at Naas last time.
