Morgan homes in on top spot

-

LANCASTRIAN Adam Morgan heads to his home circuit at Oulton Park desperate to hang on to a one-point lead at the top of the British Touring Car standings.

The Mercedes driver won last time out at Thruxton, following on from his opening victory of the campaign at Donington Park in April.

And the 29-year-old is now a serious challenger for his first title in Britain’s biggest motorsport series.

“It feels great to be top of the pile going into our home race at Oulton Park,” said Morgan.

“It’s obviously the best place to be ®Êby SIMON MELLUISH but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.

“Everyone at Ciceley Motorsport works so hard and it has taken us a number of years to get to this position.

“The BTCC is one of the toughest championships in the world, so its great to be so competitive, but it’s where we are at the end of the season that counts.”

An ever-growing number of emerging young talents are leading the way in the BTCC this season.

Morgan heads Josh Cook, Tom Ingram and Jack Goff in the standings and the quartet have an average age of 26.

The first of the established names in the title race is BMW star Colin Turkington, who is 18 points off the championship summit.

Turkington showed his mettle at Thruxton earlier this month, taking two podiums to fire him back into contention.

He said: “I knew what I had to do at Thruxton and it could either make or break my 2018 championship attack.”
