TAXI FOR JONNY

- By STEVE MADELEY

JONNY EVANS has completed his cutprice move to Leicester and set his sights on winning trophies.

Evans, 30, has signed a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium after Leicester triggered a £3.5m release clause in his West Brom contract. And he says he wants medals after watching Leicester win the Premier League title in 2016.

“Whenever a club like Leicester taste that bit of success, it’s something they know is achievable,” said the former Manchester United defender.

“It gives them that sort of ambition, ambition to taste more of that success. They are ambitious and they want to achieve things and hopefully I can be a part of that. “I do have experience of the Premier

League and hopefully I can help the younger lads moving forward.

“I’m happy it’s all gone through.

When this opportunity came up, it’s one that I couldn’t turn down.

“It’s an ambitious club, the owners are ambitious and everyone wants to push the club forward.”

The Foxes had a £23m bid turned down for Evans last summer, when he was also targeted by Arsenal and

Manchester City.

But they completed a cut-price transfer a year later thanks to a clause in

Evans’ West Brom contract that kicked in following relegation. The Northern

Ireland international spent three years with the Baggies but damaged his standing with fans with his role in the ‘Taxigate’ saga in Barcelona last season.

Evans was one of four players who broke a curfew and were accused of stealing a cab during a training camp.

Leicester boss Claude Puel said: “Jonny is a player of great experience in the Premier League.

“He knows exactly what it takes. He is a winner and a leader. He will bring a great deal to our squad and I’m delighted to welcome him to Leicester.”

The Foxes are still considering a permanent deal for former on-loan centreback Aleksandar Dragovic.
