LOVE Island star Niall Aslam has mysteriously quit the show after just a week.

The hunk’s exit was shrouded in secrecy last night as ITV bosses refused to say why he has walked away.

In an official statement, a show spokesman said 23-year-old Niall had departed the TV villa “for personal reasons”.

Contestants were seen reacting to the shock news during last night’s episode.

Alex George told the stunned competitors: “He can’t continue or come back to the villa.”

Niall’s girlfriend Georgia Steel said: “I came closer to him than most people in here but it wasn’t just that.

“He was actually my friend, my buddy.” Pal Alex added: “I’m obviously sad. “We got on really, really well. He’s such a great guy.

“And I look forward to catching up with him and having some fun with him on the outside.”

Coventry lad Niall had been one of the bookies’ favourite to win the series – and viewers are heartbroken he is out of the ITV2 show.

One fan posted: “I’m devastated. I reckon he could have won!”

Another said: “Niall has left the villa and my interest in love island has gone with him.”

While another joked: “Niall has had a good holiday.

“Gained followers on both twitter and Instagram and now going home to watch World Cup. Got to be respected that.”

Some fans have called for ex-contestant Kendall Rae-Knight, who was axed last Friday, to return now Niall has gone.

One said: “Now that Niall has quit, can they bring Kendall back please to slay Adam.”

Niall is the first contestant to quit Love Island for two years.

During the second series of the show Rykard Jenkins, Sophie Gradon and Zara Holland all walked.

Bosses are now plotting to replace Niall with a new hunk within days.

He has helped this series become a record-breaking ratings sensation. ¬Ê Don’t miss Love Island tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
