JEREMY’S NOSE DIVE

- By PATRICK WEAVER

JEREMY NOSEDA’S year is going from bad to worse – and it is not yet halfway through.

It had all looked so promising back in December.

The trainer, whose last Group One win in England and Ireland was with Sans Frontieres in 2010, had two potential stars in his yard – Walk In The Sun and Gronkowski.

The pair, two of 14 owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, won all five races they contested between January and the end of March.

Soon after that, though, they were gone.

Noseda said at the time: “The Phoenix-owned horses have left me. I am shocked and surprised. I have received no explanation or reason for their decision.”

On his first run in the States, Gronkowski finished second to Justify in Saturday’s Preakness Stakes, the third leg of America’s Triple Crown.

Walk In The Sun, meanwhile, has allegedly tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine following the second of his victories when 1-12 for a race at Lingfield back in February.

The failed test was common knowledge within racing but only emerged yesterday

Noseda and BHA spokesman Robin Mounsey have yet to comment but if Walk In The Sun, now with Martyn Meade, is found to have failed the post-race test at Lingfield then disqualification would be inevitable.

Charges

Noseda would then face charges from the BHA.

While Gronkowski is unlikely to return to these shores, Walk In The Sun is a 25-1 shot for the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot next Tuesday.

Noseda’s career has nosedived since making a promising start 20 years ago with Wannabe Grand, the top two-year-old filly of her generation.

The one-time assistant to John Gosden and Godolphin would have hoped to be in the top 10 trainers but instead he currently languishes outside the top 50.
