MAJOR BLEU FOR FRANCE

Mbappe’s injury scare

- By PAUL BROWN

KYLIAN MBAPPE has given France a big scare after limping out of training.

The Paris St-Germain striker hobbled out of yesterday’s session with an ankle injury (inset).

Mbappe, 19, was caught by team-mate Adil Rami, leaving Didier Deschamps sweating over the fitness of his star man.

France, one of the favourites for the tournament, get their Group C campaign underway against Australia on Saturday.

Mbappe’s availability will be crucial to Les Bleus chances and Antoine Griezmann says he does not care if France play ugly as long as they lift the trophy.

France slipped up two years ago when they lost the Euro 2016 final to underdogs Portugal in Paris.

Atletico Madrid star Griezmann said: “My objective is to win the World Cup with France and it doesn’t matter how we do it or our style of play.

“I believe in this group and in the important moments we’ll all be there. In attack we know we can do harm to any team. I feel comfy in the system and I’m close to the manager, Didier Deschamps. It’s a good setup to get us good results.”

France, who also have group matches against Peru and Denmark, are red-hot favourites to progress to the knockout stages.

“The first game is the most important one we have, especially as a collective,” Griezmann added. “We want to win it in order to get closer to the last 16. Peru and Denmark are tough opponents.

“We know them well and we know they defend well as a unit, but right now we’re focused on Australia and watching videos of how they play.”

Griezmann has long been a target of Manchester United, who at one point were favourites to sign him this summer.

The 27-year-old, who looks set for Barcelona, says he has made his mind up on his next move. He added: “I have made my decision. But it is not the day or place to reveal it.”
