What Meghan said to make Queen giggle
Queen and Meghan a terrific double act
THE Queen and new Royal Family member Meghan barely stopped giggling on their first official engagement together. Her Maj, 92, appeared in high spirits as the pair shared jokes and whispered to one another. Thousands of wellwishers lined streets in the northwest for the tour of Chester, Runcorn and Widnes. The pair travelled by royal train and arrived to cheers from flag-waving schoolchildren.
Meghan, who married Prince Harry last month, was by her new grandmother-in-law’s side as the Queen officially opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge. They later laughed together while watching a children’s play by the Andrew Curphey Theatre Company in Widnes. Mr Curphey, 32, said: “Meghan seemed really calm considering it was her first official engagement with the boss.” Hollyoaks creator Phil Redmond and his wife Alexis, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, were among the guests welcoming the royal new best pals. Phil joked that he planned to offer the Duchess of Sussex a role in his Channel 4 soap. He said: “She’ll have to go through the audition process like everybody else.” In Chester the Queen walked down one side of the road and Meghan the other as they chatted to the crowds.
And in the city a dog was spotted wearing sunglasses and a royal tiara.
MEGHAN is on the Emmy awards nomination ballot as best supporting actress for her role in telly’s Suits. She will find out if she has made the shortlist on July 12.
