Heimir so cool

- From JAMES DOBSON

from CHRIS HATHERALL AUSTRALIA goalkeeper Maty Ryan will not be short of support when he faces Peru today.

The Brighton star, 26, has paid for 27 members of his family to cheer him on in Russia.

His cheerleaders range from his three-year-old cousin to a grandad in his 70s.

Ryan said: “They’ve witnessed everything I’ve gone through and all the sacrifices I’ve made so it’s nice to give them something back.”

Australia need to win to have any chance of reaching the last 16 but their hopes will be dashed if Denmark get at least a draw with Group C leaders France.

Peru’s Paolo Guerrero thanked Aussie ace Mile Jedinak after he wrote a letter to FIFA in support of the striker’s bid to play while he appeals a drugs ban.

Guerrero said: “I’m grateful.

I hope to give him a hug before the game.” ICELAND are born optimists, according to manager Heimir Hallgrimsson.

To reach the last 16 on their World Cup debut, Iceland must beat Croatia tonight and hope Nigeria do not win against Argentina.

Even then their qualification could be decided on goal difference.

But Hallgrimsson is confident they will pull it off.

He said: “We are optimistic about everything.

“If it’s the Eurovision song contest, we always think we’re going to win it, even though we never do.

“It’s the same here, optimism is in our genes.

“We think we’re going to win all the matches. And even if we do lose, we think we’re going to win the next game.”
