BEEB: TALK ABOUT PAY & GET AXE

Staff told to ‘keep quiet’

BBC staff face the sack if they tell colleagues how much they earn.

The move follows a string of complaints over the corporation’s gender pay gap.

Bosses have now inserted a clause into contracts banning pay from being discussed.

They are also demanding that workers agree their pay is “fair and equitable”.

The Beeb rushed in the new contracts after hundreds of women lashed out over their salaries.

Last year’s rich list revealed huge pay gaps at the broadcaster and led to hundreds of women demanding their pay be investigated.

The new terms are said to have “horrified” workers at the BBC. A source said: ‘This tells you everything you need to know about the fact that the culture hasn’t changed.

“They are still trying to trip women up and keep them quiet.”

The BBC was forced to admit this week its top 12 earners are still all men. The list had just three women in the top 25 earners, who are all paid more than £230,000.

Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker was the highest paid employee on £1.7million last year. The top paid woman, Claudia Winkleman, was on up to £379,999.

A BBC spokesman said last night: “We are currently reviewing the wording of our contributor contracts.” TOP EARNER: Lineker
