Armstrong Ad a lucky break

-

LUKAS JUTKIEWICZ has warned Birmingham he might not be able to come to their rescue at Brentford tomorrow.

Two-goal Jutkiewicz got the Blues out of a big hole against the Tractor Boys but admits they can’t afford to start so badly again.

Ipswich had scored only one goal and lost all four games away from Portman Road before they went two up inside 41 minutes at St Andrew’s.

That earned the Blues the half-time boos and but for Jutkiewicz’s face-saving goals in the 48th and 68th minutes, Birmingham would have been in an embarrassing mess.

And tomorrow they visit Brentford, who put seven past them last season and took six points.

Birmingham have three former Bees in their side, Maxime Colin, Harlee Dean and Jota, but will they be buzzing?

“There are things we have to put right,” said Jutkiewicz.

“We must start games better. It’s happened a couple of times. We said at half-time it wasn’t good enough.

“Words were said but it was a measured discussion. There was no losing control, it was just said in no uncertain terms that we had to sort it out.”

Birmingham were hammered 5-0 at Brentford a year ago and Jutkiewicz added: “That stung massively, not just for our former Brentford lads but for everyone.

“It was a tough night to take. They did the double as well. It all adds a bit of flavour to it.”

Jon Nolan and Matthew Pennington got Ipswich off to their flier but they didn’t hold on and are still without a win under new manager Paul Hurst.

“It’s 10 games in the league now and you’ve got to make a judgment,” said Hurst.

“There are things I know that have got to happen and hopefully will.

“But we haven’t lost as many games as some and I don’t think we are easily beaten. We’re competitive.”
