It’s Moore the merrier for Jay

-

MARIO VRANCIC is happy not to start for Norwich while making a dramatic impact off the bench.

The Bosnian midfielder came on to hit the Canaries’ winner for the second game in a row, scoring a late penalty.

“Even from the bench, I’m trying to have an impact,” said Vrancic, who also hit Norwich’s winner at Reading in their last league game.

“Luckily I had a great impact again. You need to use any minute you get on the pitch.

“It’s up to the boss – he decides who is going to play. I got 25 minutes and I was just trying to use them and obviously, with a crucial goal, I’m pleased.

“It doesn’t matter how many minutes you get, you have to use them.”

Norwich’s fifth win in a row, combined with a second successive clean sheet, has pushed Daniel Farke’s side into the top six. And Vrancic believes the run has a lot to do with the squad’s honesty.

This was epitomised when nominated penalty taker Teemu Pukki, who had been fouled to win the spot-kick, admitted he did not feel right about taking it and asked Vrancic to do the honours.

“I’m so happy that Teemu was honest,” said Vrancic. “We have this momentum and togetherness in our team.”

Wigan failed to test home keeper Tim Krul with a single shot and have a dismal away record since being promoted, with four defeats in five on the road.

Latics midfielder Michael Jacobs said: “One minute you’re on top of the moon, the next minute you’re down in the dungeons, but we know we can fight back.’
