The thrashing left Team USA still waiting for their first win on foreign soil in 27 years.

Molinari, 35, has had the summer of his life after winning The Open at Carnoustie and the PGA Championship at Wentworth.

But he reckons landing the Ryder Cup tops the lot. He said: “This is bigger than winning a Major. I couldn’t even dream of a summer like this.

“To think before Wentworth, things were going OK, but not great. Then everything started clicking. Then after The Open, obviously there was a

bit of a lull, but the main thing in mind was always this week – and I’m glad I showed up and did the job.

“I’ve been kind of carried by the other guys the other two times I was on the winning side.

“So it was about time to help them and do a good job. But it’s really not about the individual. It’s about the group. It’s incredible. I’ve never had a better feeling in golf.”

Sergio Garcia beat Rickie Fowler to become the leading Ryder Cup points scorer of all time.

The Spaniard said: “This is definitely the strongest team in depth that I have ever played in.”

Bjorn hailed his heroes – and then claimed the only bad decision he had made as Ryder Cup skipper was his vow to have the winning score tattooed onto his backside if he led his players to victory.

Bjorn, who has an English girlfriend, said: “Let me put it this way, it’s going to go on a part that only Grace will see.

“I might have to send the players a picture, then you’ll all see it as well. It was the worst decision I made all week.”

The Dane added: “I’m very proud. This hasn’t been easy, they have been amazing. The 12 of them have been unbelievable.”

American legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were sent packing without winning a single point.

Woods said: “We didn’t execute like we had planned and wanted to.

“For me personally, I went zero and four and that’s disappointing.

“To have a Ryder Cup go that way doesn’t feel good. I didn’t help my teammates win any points.”
