SIR Paul McCartney has told how he forgets his own songs because they are “very hard”.

The Beatles legend said he had to relearn the lyrics and tunes to his hits before he performed them.

And he revealed he dreams of being back in The Beatles with late bandmates John Lennon and George Harrison.

Macca, 76, said: “When I’m doing shows I listen to a lotta music, Beatles music, Wings music, to see what ones we’re gonna do. And to learn them.”

Asked if he forgot them, Sir Paul said: “Yeah. There’s too many. Too many words. Too many notes. They’re very hard. I mean, you know, it’s not like they’re all three chords.”

McCartney told how he and Lennon competed against each other to write top songs. He said: “If he’d have written Strawberry Fields, I would write Penny

Lane.” Macca said that Lennon had been a “bit insecure”, and he had to reassure his bandmate he would be “remembered as one of the greatest people”.

He also admitted he too had suffered from self-doubt. He said: “Just like anyone else, you have insecurities. ’Cause everyone has them. And no matter how high and great and wonderful you get, there’s still something will make you worry.” McCartney revealed that after recording the album Revolver he became convinced it was out of tune. He said: “I got the horrors one day. And I went to the guys... They said: ‘No, it isn’t.’ I go: ‘Oh, OK’.”

He also revealed he reunites The Beatles in his dreams and “hangs out” with Lennon and Harrison. He said: “I often have dreams about John or George.” Asked if they are good dreams or bad dreams, he added: “They tend to be very good.”
