Frost blows cold

- By PATRICK WEAVER

BRYONY FROST nearly had a winner on her first day back from injury at Newton Abbot but did not quite manage it.

Her comeback mount, Atlantic Grey, flopped in the fifth race on the card but Frost, inset, was full of hope that Third Estate would justify his short odds in the closing handicap hurdle.

Her mount did his best but could not go past the 7-1 shot Scorpion Star, Martin Hill’s final runner as a trainer.

Richard Johnson had earlier gone to the top of the Stobart Jockeys’ Championship thanks to wins on On Demand and Motueka. His tactical experience won him both races as he completely outfoxed Harry Cobden in one race and Lorcan Williams in the other. One mouthy tweeter, @courtez, was adamant Johnson would have won on Williams’ mount, Super Scorpion, had he been on it. He tweeted: ‘It was the difference between a seasoned champion and a young apprentice. “Switch the jockeys and you would have had a different result.

“I’m not blaming anybody. It is just a fact.”
