ONLY Fools And Horses favourite Sue Holderness – alias dippy Marlene – has blasted political correctness and says TV viewers these days would want cheeky chappie Del Boy locked up.
ONLY Fools And Horses star Sue Holderness reckons today’s politically correct brigade would not laugh at Del Boy – they would want him locked up.
The actress, who played ditzy Marlene in the classic sitcom, says she is furious Derek Trotter would today be branded a “pervert” for scenes in which he pinched her bum or hugged her. She said: “In the very first episode, Del gave me a big hug, kissed me and pinched my a**e and nobody took any offence, except Boycie, who looked daggers.” Sue, who is still pals with Del Boy actor Sir David Jason, said: “I don’t think you would get away with Del Boy pinching Marlene’s bottom with- out everybody saying ‘He’s a pervert’ and ‘he should be locked up’.” Marlene’s saucy antics were frequently criticised by her husband Boycie (played by John Challis) – but Sue said: “I feel really sorry for men now because I don’t know how they cope.” And the 69-year-old star also reckons fellas should be allowed to wolf-whistle. She added: “A wolf whistle isn’t supposed to be allowed now, which is such a pity.”
But she added: “I’m with the MeToo movement. Of course women should be paid as much as men.
“I was paid much, much less than John Challis on Only Fools.”
She added: “There have been people saying you could never make Only Fools And Horses now, it was racist. It wasn’t racist.”
Sue is reuniting with Sir David in the new series of popular show Still Open All Hours.
