TV HERO’S HAND OF HODD
Ace’s family thank Simon
THE family of former England manager Glenn Hoddle last night thanked the TV sound engineer who saved his life.
Quick-thinking Simon Daniels used the CPR skills he picked up as a special constable to revive heart attack victim Hoddle, who was “responding well” to treatment yesterday.
A HERO sound engineer saved Glenn Hoddle when he collapsed on the BT Sport set.
Simon Daniels revealed he learned his lifesaving skills as a police officer. Onlookers were shocked when Hoddle fell down after playing football tennis with other ex-professionals on his 61st birthday.
Special Constable Simon started chest compressions and performed CPR before using a defibrillator to kick-start his heart.
Last night Hoddle’s condition was “serious” but he was responding well to treatment in hospital. Simon said: “I just did what was necessary to give him a fighting chance. It was my training as a Special Constable that paid off. It wasn’t stressful, but it was hard work. I don’t see myself as a hero.”
Ex-Spurs and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp witnessed Hoddle’s collapse. He said: “I don’t know what caused it, but it was obviously very serious right away. “One guy from BT Sport was fantastic – he was first aid-trained and he was excellent.”
A spokesman for Hoddle said: “Glenn and his family would like to publicly thank the BT Sport staff.”
