Ben can see escape route

MARC ROBERTS believes few teams are capable of matching Birmingham’s

11-match unbeaten run in the Championship this season.

What’s more, Garry Monk’s side have managed it with the threat of a

15-point deduction hanging over their heads.

Losses of £46m and the signing of Kristian Pedersen during a transfer embargo could instantly turn the Blues’ play-off push into a relegation battle in a heartbeat.

Their fate will be decided by an independent commission in December.

Monk has managed to generate a great team spirit despite the noose hanging around their necks.

“We just separate ourselves from all the talk about points being deducted,” said Roberts.

“We can’t have any negatives. We don’t discuss it. It’s for the club to sort out. The moment we step onto the pitch, that’s what we can sort out. Everyone believes in what we are doing. Everybody buys into that. Even the ones who are not playing. It’s a real collective group.”

Roberts proved that by coming on as a 13thminute sub for Harlee Dean as Wednesday were running Monk’s side ragged. Despite that, the visitors only had Steven Fletcher’s goal to show for their total dominance.

But it was a different story after the break with Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams adding to Connor Mahoney’s equaliser to force a fourth straight win.

Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay said: “We will speak about it at training. Everything does not need to be negative.”
