Strevens: Let me stay on for Leyton
EASTLEIGH caretaker boss Ben Strevens pleaded for more time in order to knock Leyton Orient off top spot.
Macauley Bonne’s double in the 4-0 rout of Havant & Waterlooville took Justin Edinburgh’s O’s to the National League summit.
But Strevens, who secured his first win thanks to Josh Hare’s strike at Halifax, hopes to still be in charge to face in-form Orient tomorrow night.
He said: “The result will have done me no harm at all.
“It was a big win and a big performance and I believe I will be in charge against Orient.”
Ebbsfleet’s stubborn rearguard display frustrated Salford as the leaders were held 1-1 on home soil.
Salford boss Graham Alexander said: “We tried to play the right way and do the right things. But Ebbsfleet had a plan and stuck to it.”
Jonathan Smith snatched a stoppage-time draw for struggling Chesterfield against high-flying Wrexham and Spirietes boss Martin Allen said: “We’re moving in the right direction.”
Two-goal Danny Rowe helped Fylde to an impressive 6-0 win at Maidenhead, who had Christian Smith red carded on 23 minutes for a poor challenge on Ryan Croasdale.
Sutton manager Paul Doswell praised his team’s “character” after Craig Eastmond grabbed a 79th-minute winner in the 3-2 defeat of Hartlepool.
Two goals by Alex McQueen in the 2-1 victory over Harrogate ended Dagenham’s five-game losing streak.
