‘Fix’ fury as Rahul wins in extra time

THE Great British Bake Off has been blasted after winner Rahul Mandal got extra time in the final challenge.

The task took place in the summer heatwave and it was so hot a jar on Rahul’s bench exploded, sending shards of glass into his cake mix.

To keep the competition fair, producers gave the research scientist an extra 15 minutes.

But furious viewers last night claimed it was a fix to make sure he won.

One said: “I’m absolutely seething! #fix #favouritism #fuming

– he did not deserve to win! Kim Joy was robbed!”

And another added: “I liked Rahul, but he should have gone two weeks before. Paul and Prue couldn’t even eat his bread!!

“And he still got through! Clear favouritism, and harsh criticism for the others.”

Viewers also claimed to have caught the 30year-old

in a lie after he at first claimed to have never tried a doughnut but said later he preferred one “with lots of filling”.

One Twitter user wrote: “So at the start Rahul says he’s never had a doughnut then a bit later he says he likes them with lots of filling... hmmm.”

But Rahul’s followers later defended their champion. Writer Frank CottrellBoyce pulled up social media warriors on their grammar. He said: “To everyone who is saying that #Rahul is not an absolute b ****** vortex of whirling creativity and genius – the phrase you’re looking for is ‘should have’ NOT ‘should of ’.” Channel 4 had 7.5million viewers for Tuesday night’s final.

It was the network’s highest number since the Paralympics opening in 2012. But the figures were half the 2016 peak of 14m when GBBO was on the BBC.
