RON’S No1 DREAM

-

THE Rolling Stones are the luckiest band in the world according to Ronnie Wood.

Their new compilation, Confessin’ The Blues, includes Howlin’ Wolf’s Little Red Rooster which The Stones took to No1 in 1964. And Ronnie, who only joined the Stones in the 1970s, joked: “There were lots of bands we used to call really lucky in those days when I was really struggling in the 60s.

“Bands like the Stones had hits which was absolutely unheard of to a little bloke like me. I thought, well I’m going to wangle my way through songs like on this album, know them all.”

Ronnie had played blues standards with The Birds and Faces before joining the Stones and said: “The Faces were a little bit more dishevelled, with the Stones at least you could get an arrangement out!”

Many of the songs were covered by The Stones on 2016’s Blue & Lonesome album.

Ronnie said: “It’s come full circle. A lot of due diligence and research was done by my peers. What Mick, Keith and Charlie know between them is all you need to know; I just pitch in a little bit.

“I’d never heard Howlin’ Wolf’s Commit A Crime; Mick turned me on to that, he digs out all those kind of songs.” The album is dedicated to blues great Willie Dixon.

Ronnie explained: “He wrote many of the songs and a certain amount of profits are going to the Willie Dixon Foundation.”

Confessin’ The Blues is out November 9.
