THE BEAST IS BACK!

Big freeze will blast Britain

TEMPERATURES are set to turn Baltic next week as the Beast From The East turns the country colder than Moscow.

The mercury is set to rise to 17C this week as southerly winds bring in Mediterranean conditions.

But we’ll be reaching for our coats again next week thanks to cold air from the east bringing freezing snowy conditions.

John Hammond, chief meteorologist for Weathertrending, said: “This week’s balmy southerly winds are set to be replaced by chilly easterlies by early next week, more like Moscow than the Med.

“So while a few places may reach the high teens over the next few days, daytime temperatures for some could soon drop by as much as 15 degrees.

“It’ll be a shock to the system after the recent mild weather. A huge area of high pressure will drive the Russian air towards us, and there is a chance that a few flurries of snow may drift in on the breeze.

“With mild Atlantic winds continuing to be stopped in their tracks, the chances of more intense cold increases as we approach the end of the month.” Temperatures will hover around 1C next week while the Kremlin enjoys 3C or 4C.

And the Met Office believes the conditions could last until December.

Its forecast reads: “Temperatures will be close to average initially, but it will be generally much colder from Monday onwards.

“It will continue to be cold… although many places could stay dry, some showers or longer spells of rain could affect parts of the south.” SNOW HOPE: Co Durham
