KILLER IS NOT CURED IT’S ALL A COVER-UP
Family hit back over TV claims
THE James Bulger killer said to have been “rehabilitated” has breached parole conditions, his victim’s family claim.
Robert Thompson was hailed a successfully reformed young offender in a Channel 5 documentary last night.
But Stuart Fergus, second husband of James’s mum Denise, replied to a Twitter comment that Thompson had “not broken any laws since release”.
Stuart said: “Yes he has... it’s just been covered up!”
When asked what evidence he had, Stuart said: “More than you sunshine.’’
Strict
In the documentary it emerged that Thompson felt he experienced a “better life” because he had snatched, tortured and killed two-year-old James in 1993.
The truant and shoplifter, who lived on the streets before committing murder aged 10, emerged from his eight years in custody educated and able to get a job.
Unlike his accomplice Jon Venables, currently in jail for child porn offences, Thompson had seemingly stayed out of trouble.
Amanda Knowles, who managed his custody unit, said: “It proves rehabilitation can be successful.”
She added: “Robert was able to re-enter society and get on with his life.”
He and Venables were freed aged 18 in 2001 under strict conditions.
The Ministry of Justice refused to discuss the case.
