Do-gooders ban Coke tour

COCA-Cola’s Christmas trucks have been banned from towns and cities across Britain this Yuletide – thanks to do-gooders.

The drinks giant’s lorries covered in fairy lights will visit only 24 shopping centres – down from 38 last year.

Coca-Cola bosses were told they would not be welcome in Liverpool and Carlisle, where the council passed a motion not to invite them.

Public protests have also taken place in Glasgow, Waltham Forest in northeast London, Plymouth and Bristol.

Coca-Cola’s festive promotion has been delighting families across the UK for 23 years. They have dished out free 150ml cans of Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke to thousands of people.

But the backlash comes after health bodies hit out at the distribution of free sugary drinks to kids, which objectors claim encourages them to buy and consume the drinks.

A Coca-Cola spokesman said: “This annual event is something that our consumers love and enjoy, and I feel we run it in a responsible way.

“Every drink we offer now will be either zero sugar or diet, unless someone over 12 specifically asks for a different Coca-Cola.”
