All-rounder Jake can be a Wolves wonder

- By GARETH WALKER

WARRINGTON coach Steve Price says Jake Mamo’s utility value will aid his beaten Grand Finalists’ attempt to go one better in 2019.

The arrival of Australian Mamo (left) from Huddersfield on a one-year deal was confirmed by the Wolves last night.

The 24-year-old can play across the whole backline and replaces outgoing Mitch Brown at the club.

Price said: “I’ve watched Jake closely for a number of years over in the NRL and also in the Super League at Huddersfield. He has a lot of quality attributes and brings a lot of enthusiasm.

“He competes really hard and can play in a number of positions – in a centre, wing, full-back type role.

“He’s going to be a great acquisition for our footy club.”

Salford have confirmed the signing of Welsh prop Gil Dudson as Super League clubs continue to complete their 2019 squads.

Dudson, who is expected to be followed by fellow front rower Adam Walker once his 20-month cocaine ban expires in March, joins from relegated Widnes.

Salford coach Ian Watson said: “Gil is a player I’ve known for a long time through the Welsh National side and is a player who always gives 100 per cent.

“He has a good skill level but more importantly as a front-rower, he has an aggression and competitive attitude to win his battles which is what we need in our middles. I know Gil will come in and add to the ‘team first’ mentality that we have here at Salford.”

Toronto Wolfpack will spend the first two-and-a-half months of the 2019 campaign on the road due to the harshness of the Canadian winter.

“It’s going to be the back end of April before we get back over there,” said director of rugby Brian Noble.

Wealthy chairman David Argyle spoke of his plans to take games to European cities such as Copenhagen and Dublin had Toronto gained promotion to Super League. Despite losing out to London Broncos in the Million Pound Game, Noble says the club still harbour big ambitions.

He added: “Our owner genuinely believes in the global aspect of our game so we’re still looking at that kind of venture.”

Toronto head coach Brian McDermott says he has been impressed by Argyle’s ambition.

He said: “He’s got some big plans and he doesn’t carry too much baggage around with him. He also appreciates that it’s one step at a time, let’s get in Super League first.”
