Sessegnon’s fine cross in the eighth minute.

Solanke (left) was then lucky to escape with just a yellow card after a late challenge on substitute Arturo Calabresi.

Moise Kean’s powerful header hauled the hosts level before the break but there was still time for Lewis Cook to hit the crossbar. Solanke

Jay Dasilva squeezed out a left-wing cross into the box and some poor defending from Italy allowed an unmarked Solanke to tap in his second.

Italy pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages and only a fine reflex stop from England goalkeeper Dean Henderson kept out Patrick Cutrone’s close-range effort.

England now face Denmark on Tuesday ahead of next Friday’s Euro 2019 draw in Bologna.
