CAPRI NEEDS TO MOTOR

-

RYAN MOORE says Capri needs to return to his best form to have any chance in tomorrow’s Japan Cup.

Capri won the Irish Derby and the St Leger in

2017 but has not managed to hit those heights since.

Moore said the horse was in good form after galloping Aidan O’Brien’s grey on the Tokyo track this week ahead of the 1m

4f showpiece.

He said: “We’re very happy with him. He’s travelled and settled in very well.

“This year he started well and then he had a setback. He ran a very creditable race in the Arc.

“This horse very rarely runs a bad race. His form is very good – when you look back when he won the St Leger, he beat Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius and Rekindling. When he ®Êby JASON HEAVEY won the Irish Derby he beat Cracksman, Wings Of Eagles and Waldgeist who are all Group One winners.

“He needs to come back to that to be involved against some high-class horses.”

Thundering Blue has won at Group Two and Group Three level for David Menuisier, as well being placed in two Group Ones.

He was beaten only a length in the Canadian InternationalatWoodbine, by Desert Encounter.

Menuisier is looking for a strong pace in the race to play to his strengths.

He said: “As he is a horse with a big turn of foot, I would like to think that a strong pace will play in his favour.”
