MY lover is so mean it has become embarrassing.

For my birthday he promised me a dirty weekend away.

What I got was a night in a motel on a motorway service station – and yes, the room was very grubby.

I’m all for bargains, but he won’t move without a voucher.

From cheap pizzas to 2-for-1 cocktails, I’m often insulted about how far he’ll go to save a penny. For his birthday I got him an Apple watch. For my birthday I received a box of Matchmakers and a bubble bath from the pound shop. This is despite the fact he’s absolutely loaded.

He’s also very tight when it comes to sex. He turns up at my place and says: “I can give you one hour, tops.” Then the minute he’s orgasmed he’s off.

I understand that things are difficult, what with his wife, ex-wife and various children, but if he loves me like he says he does, then why can’t he be more thoughtful? Why doesn’t my generosity rub off on him?

JANE SAYS: Please stop selling yourself short with this whirlwind of a man. From grubby nights in cheap motels to bargain bucket dates he sounds exhausting.

No wonder he’s loaded if he watches every penny. But it’s not just about the money, is it? From what you say, he has so much going on in his life that you’re lucky if you get an hour of his company at a time. This is no way to live your life?

At the very end of your letter you casually drop in a wife, ex-wife and various children. Hasn’t he already got enough on his plate? Wouldn’t you be a whole lot happier with someone who is capable of giving all of himself to you?

Tell him to go back to the people who need him and give yourself a break from dating. When you’re ready, look for someone whose generosity matches yours.
