Kayal’s Scot goals in mind
BERAM KAYAL wants to recreate the stunning goal he scored against Scotland when Brighton face Leicester today – but with a happier ending.
Kayal (below) scored a wonderful long-range effort to put Israel ahead in Tuesday’s Nations League clash but saw his team beaten 3-2 by the Scots.
It was a rare strike from the former Celtic midfielder who said: “I’ve watched it a few times – a lot of family and friends have sent it to me.
“It was a special one and a special moment for me being back in Glasgow. But the sad thing is that after a great start we didn’t get the result.
“I would be more than happy to have the opportunity to score again against Leicester.
“It’s not so easy because sometimes with only two midfielders here you have to sit and give the wide men freedom to go and attack.
“But, if the opportunity comes, I will shoot from distance. Don’t put any money on it but I’ll try!” Kayal’s career at Brighton has been dogged by injuries, just as it was with Celtic after a flying start.
But he is now fully fit and, with key midfielder Dale Stephens suspended for three games, has a big opportunity to anchor Brighton’s midfield. “I’m happy to have that responsibility,” he said. “It’s not really about goals for me but I scored at Newcastle and I have a couple of assists.
“As a midfielder in this system sometimes you need to be selfish and shoot rather than pass. “But what is really in my mind is that I want to give everything for the team and to help us win.”
