A MARRIED prison officer had sex with a child killer mum against a washing machine, a jury heard.

The alleged incident took place in the jail laundry. Iain Cocks, 51, also repeatedly romped with Michelle King, 33, in her cell, it was claimed. King, inset, was serving four years for the manslaughter of her daughter who accidently drank the mum’s methadone.

She had a two-year affair with Cocks, whose surname was the butt of jokes among prisoners, Leeds Crown Court heard. King told the jury: “I looked forward to seeing Cocks at work.’’ The warder was also having sexual relations with another inmate at New Hall Prison, near Wakefield, West Yorks, and seeing a former lag too, it was claimed.

Cocks, from Barnsley, denies sexual assault and two charges of misconduct in a public office.

King, now released, told the jury she would get “glammed up” before meeting him in the cells. She said it was “not out of the ordinary” for officers to get “close” to prisoners.

Another prison officer was sacked after having a relationship with an inmate.

King said she was “upset and hurt” when she found out that Cocks was also seeing a former inmate called Claire.

“I couldn’t believe he was seeing me in prison and seeing her once she’s been released,’’ she said. “Things felt real. I didn’t want to leave him.’’

One of their romps took place in her cell at 6am on New Year’s Day.

King, a former heroin addict, said she tried to protect him by not giving police a full statement.

She said: “I didn’t want him to get in trouble and get sacked.’’

Mark McKone, prosecuting, said Cocks allegedly engaged in inappropriate behaviour with a second inmate, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when she was moved onto the same wing.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted her on her cell bed.

The trial continues.
