WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY
THE show that used to be called Vic Reeves’ Big Night Out is back on telly tonight (10pm, BBC Four) for the first time since whenever it was last on, which was definitely quite a long time ago.
It’s actually undergone a subtle name change – it’s now called
VIC & BOB’S BIG NIGHT OUT, giving Bob Mortimer equal billing, naturally – but it won’t disappoint anyone who loved the Channel 4 original.
Mental characters, rubbish jokes, borderline certifiable witness, the whole package remains satisfyingly intact – including the ever popular Novelty Island.
Shall I quote you a few lines from episode one, by way of a taster? Well, if you insist, but I’m not convinced this kind of comedy really works on the printed page…
At one point Bob tells Vic off for consistently having his medical ailments treated by unsuitable practitioners – such as getting his sciatica treated by a turtle.
“And who did you use to do your varicose veins?” an exasperated Bob continues.
“Richard,” confesses Vic, shamefaced.
“Richard the…?”
“Crab.”
“Richard the crab! You’ve got to stop it, Vic.”
Sorry, I did warn you. ELSEWHERE tonight, we meet a cute looking pack of bush dogs in this week’s episode of THE SECRET LIFE OF THE ZOO (8pm, Channel 4). “They’re just a very loving, caring group of animals,” remarks keeper Kieran, “that would rip your hand off, given half a chance…” TALKING of which, the candidates on THE APPRENTICE (9pm, BBC1) are set the task this week of becoming shopping channel hosts.
