Matt: I’ll make up for miss
MATT RITCHIE has vowed to make amends for his horror Turf Moor miss with a screamer for Newcastle against West Ham on Saturday.
The winger shot wide from two yards with the goal gaping on Monday.
Newcastle’s 2-1 win against Burnley spared him the ultimate embarrassment of costing his side points, but he admitted: “Horrific – a horrendous miss.
“Luckily it did not cost us three points so in a way I can smile about it but, believe me, inside it hurts.
“But I’m a strong character and hopefully in the next game I can put it behind me.”
Stick
With a long-range piledriver at home to the Hammers? “Yes, that’s the plan,” he added.
Ritchie is getting plenty of stick from team-mates, and admits: “It’s already started and I’m sure they’ll keep reminding me, and I’m sure it will be on every worst misses compilation.”
Ritchie struggled to explain how he failed to find the net.
He added: “I gambled, made a good run to the back post and then when the ball came over... unbelievable!
‘‘I think I was already celebrating when I shot.
“I then kept thinking about how I missed it when I was trying to concentrate on the game.
“I’ll probably remember it for the rest of my life.”
