THERESA May was last night urged to ditch Brexit talks and back the Daily Star’s campaign to free framed Corrie favourite Sally Metcalfe.

THERESA May was last night urged to ditch her Brexit talks and instead back the Daily Star’s campaign to “Save Our Sally”.

Thousands of Corrie fans are fuming after TV favourite Sally Metcalfe was sent to prison for fraud.

Viewers know she is innocent and has been framed. Now they have pleaded with the Prime Minister to intervene – just like 20 years ago when Tony Blair joined the “Free The Weatherfield One” campaign to get Deirdre Rachid out of jail. One fan tweeted last night: “We need to go and see @theresa_may and get Sally released.”

In Monday’s episode, the former mayor of Weatherfield (played by Sally Dynevor, 55) was found guilty of fraud, money laundering and bribery.

She collapsed when she heard the decision. However, viewers know that Sally is innocent of any crime.

She was conned by corrupt businessman Duncan Radfield (played by Nicholas Gleaves, 49) into handing a council grant over to him back in the summer.

Sister Gina helped seal her fate. Scheming Duncan had managed to dupe her into thinking he and Sally had an affair.

As Sally was sent down, she shouted: “I have never stolen any money. I love my husband.”

Many viewers called on Mrs May to step in.

Comments included: “Dear @ theresa_may Sally Metcalfe has been found guilty on all 3 charges! This is a travesty! You must intervene and free her!”

Another added: “We need justice for Sally!”

Last night your Daily Star reached out to No10 and asked if Theresa May would break away from her current tour to promote her Brexit deal to the British public and intervene in this most pressing case. So far, she has yet to respond.

Some threatened to boycott the soap. Comments included: “The Sally guilty storyline is so horrible. I am boycotting Coronation Street until Sally is released!”
