UK IN FOR A SOAKING!
Storm puts ‘lives in danger’
BRITAIN is set to be pummelled by a double whammy of storms over the next 48 hours with fears of heavy rain and hurricane force winds.
A winter storm with a Met Office warning of “danger to life” caused by gusts of 80mph as well as snow will hit the UK tomorrow.
The strong winds will be most dangerous in exposed areas across the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Gale force gusts of 40mph are expected in parts of the south and the Midlands.
It follows two inches of rain yesterday which put businesses and homes in Wales on flood alert.
And temperatures fell to a frosty -8.8C overnight at Braemar in Aberdeenshire, for the UK’s coldest night of the winter so far.
The Met Office’s yellow weather warning reads: “A spell of very strong winds on Friday could bring some disruption.
“Road, rail and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.
“Some roads and bridges may close and there is a slight chance of damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from rooves.
“There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris.”
The deluge yesterday was due to Storm Etienne which hit Britain after it wreaked havoc in the Azores.
